Won't save dial up password?

Sometimes when I am downloading something I get disconnected and my Dial Up Networking window pops up but it shows a really long series of dots in the password field. I put in the correct password and tell it to save. Well when I get disconnected again, it does the exact same thing. A long series of dots instead of the actual password. I have gone into Internet Options and put in my password, save it and when I go back into Internet Options again, there is that same long series of dots presumably my password. Why won't it save my password? Is there something I am doing wrong? Thank you for your help.

Ahem, have you tried if you can still log in when you redial. Windows doesn't show your password as text. But if it's not this simple and Windows really does lose the password, then I can't really say why it does it.

Well when it redials by itself it will log in in the background. However the dial up networking pop up is still showing waiting for some input from me and then asking me to dial but it's already done so in the background. But like I said when I am disconnected it does not redial automatically all the time but rather asks me if I want to reconnect and wants me to fill in my password. I mean it's saving it somewhere because when it redials on it's own I log in correctly but if I just click on reconnect with the user name and password that is showing, I get an invalid password message from my ISP.

I am having the same problem. My internet password is 7 digits long and dial-up networking always shows it as being around 12. It seems to be working alright though.

It is a security Feature introduced in Win2000 so that possible users can't guess the password by the actual lenght of the password.
