Subject: won't play in Windows media playerOS: Win XP HomeCPU/Ram: 2.4 gig/256 meg |
Comment: I'm having a problem now with playing some videos in Windows media player. The video starts playing without any error messages, nothing about missing codes and such, but I just get a black screen while it is playing. I don't get any sound or video except the black screen. Anyone have a clue as to what could be going on? I can't get those videos to play in any other players that I open them up in either.

Reply: (edit)What type are they? divx? mpeg? wmv? Get g-spot and make sure you have the necessary codecs installed. http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

Reply: (edit)They're avi files. Thanks for the info. about that web site. I downloaded that program and tried it, but strangely enough it seems to detect everything as being ok with the files. It doesn't find anything wrong.

Reply: (edit)JD, Movie files have so many different types of formats and each format seems to have a ton of codecs. Sometimes I have to go through a few "players" before I find one that will play a specific file. If WMP won't open it, try "open with" and browse to "mplayer2.exe". It should be in C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player (along with the newer version). There are some older formats that will only play in the older version. I also use AVIpreview to watch movie files that won't work in anything else. It's free. You can find it here SullyD

Reply: (edit)You were caught in trafic jam, try it again later at night, it will be different. Go to your computer web site and download the latest driver for the video card. Will fix it.
