wont install updates

sumthins weird....i have windows xp and when i go to the update page and it tells me the latest drivers and a critical update...the funny thing is it downloads them then when it tries to install them it keeps saying it failed...does that mean either its telling me its not the right driver or its protecting my computer by not installing it?...even the critical update 1 wont install and i tried other and they work fine....i have a dell grforce 2 card...but it wont install an upsate for it...weird
