When i put the cd in the drive and restart the computer it wont boot from the cd. It looks at both the cd drives but does find the windows xp in the drive it then just goes onto load up windows xp normally. I has always worked when i have dont it previously.

if you have the bios already setup to boot from cd before hard drive then i would put the windows cd in the other drive and try it, if that dont work you probably have a bad cd or bad cd roms

Are you getting the prompt "to Boot from CD press any key",, you only have a few seconds or it will continue to boot.

Even if you formatted at some point before, If you want to re-install the OS you will need to press any key to boot from the CD or it will bypass this step and go on booting from the HDD.

Take the hard drive out of the list of boot devices for the reinstall and turn it back on when done.

I have had many bad XP cd's as well as CD drives that have gone bad. If bios settings are correct, it is either the drive or the cd. Do you have any other self-booting CD's around like Maxblast that comes with a Maxtor hard drive. Try one of them to see if it will boot from any CD.

It is not the MOBO that uses the press any key option but the XP/OS. Look it up anywhere on google on how to install/re-install XP.

FJB is right about it being the Xp install disc that requests to boot by pressing any key.
I think the guy has a bad drive, as he stated that it looks at the first drive then goes to the second. He and all the people that claim to install xp all the time should know that you are asking for issues when you try to install xp with all kinds of periperal hardware installed. You may get away with it once/twice but then it is going to cause you hardache.
So, ryan, why not do what you should have done in the first place and remove all the other stuff except for 1 HDD, 1 Ram Board, I CD-ROM and nothing else.
