My Daughter in college call saying I tunes keep opening so she uninstall it and then WMP keeps opening every few seconds and blocking the screen. She brought the Laptop home last week and I do not see a problem. She is back at school and calls again same problem. I have looked for a start menu item stoping the ipod and music service and uninstalling WMP. She has adware running the only thing that seems to stop it is safe mode with network but no printing services to print her papers.
Help!
Tim

The problem may lie in conflicts between Ipod music service and windows media player both wanting to control the media that is being played. And both trying to name the source.

In windows media player there is an auto web search program to identify the artist and songs...turn it off and see if that helps.

Now for a personal view...uninstall windows media player through the add/remove>windows components and install window player classic with the Real Alternative and Quicktime Alternative plugins. This program is non resource hogging and will allow all media type files to be played without all the garbage.

You can get it at:

Then download the plugins

If your version is up to v9 or 10 they cannot be uninstalled as they won't be listed in add remove for uninstall. You would need to do the following:

Use this trick to uninstall MSN Messenger, Media Player, MSN Explorer and Microsoft Games. First, make a copy of sysoc.inf (found on the hard disk at \winnt\inf\sysoc.inf) before proceeding so that you can restore the initial configuration if necessary. Give the copy a different name, such as sysoc2.inf. Open the Sysoc.inf file. Each line of text in the file represents a component that can be displayed in the Add/Remove Windows Components dialog. Delete the word HIDE for any component that you want to see in the dialog (do not erase the commas). Save the Sysoc.inf file, then close it, and reboot your computer. The Add/Remove Windows Components dialog will now display the items you want for removal.

One other thing, the classic is ok, but lacks many codecs to be of use for latest videos and or audios. Klite codec installs wmp classic and functions for all latest vid and audio. If you don't like that one, one of the best is VLC media player, also free.
