wmp file recognition error

Comment:
I recently purchased a dell inspiron 6400 laptop with windows xp home edition. My problem is that after i set up my windows media player to recognize all file types, it resets itself so that it does not recognize all file types. The reversion is not immediate; it occurs usually within 4 hours of changing the settings or anytime after i restart the computer. I have tried changing the settings, then immediatly restarting the system to see if that works, but it doesnt. Do I just have to live with this problem? Thanks

Some other program that you might have may be set to restore file types to its own program and is doing so when it checks file types. Do you have another media player that might be doing this?

i have wmp version 10.0. I believe I also have the new version of winamp pro. WMP is set up as my main media program right now, I use winamp mostly for my milkdrop plugin.
