Hi all,

I just reloaded my aunt's new laptop for her before sending it to her configured the way I feel is most user friendly and completely lacking of any unneeded crap.

I redid a B130 for another aunt of mine and included the extremely easy to use FreeCDRipper for her to put music on her machine and make road trip cd's using Nero.

the one getting this 6400 really liked wmp when she used it, but she is planning on getting a portable music player.

Question 1: do most or all new portable music players play both wma and mp3 formats?

if not, then Question 2 applies:
if necessary, because she is adamant about having the cd case info (graphics) included in ripping cds, and the freecdripper doesn't do that but wmp does, should I have her rip using wmp to wma's and have to convert the wma's to mp3's?

I was looking at the Free WMA to MP3 Converter from Jonix.com for her to be able to do that conversion from wma to mp3. I haven't downloaded it yet to see if it's good, but cnet likes it.

please let me know what any of you think as far as a direction I should steer my fairly technically inept aunt(s).

Many Thanks!
Chuck

Not all players are MP3 compatible, when purchasing a player make sure it states that it is MP3 compatible

Any portable media player manufacturer that decisively chooses to not support those two formats - most especially mp3, is either not interested in making any impressionable mark within its target market & is probably just testing the waters or already has a huge share of the same market in its pocket IMO.
