hello all, i know this has been posted before and I searched the net but i could not find a solution yet. I have tried almost everything. Please help to crack this. recently, WMP 11 will not show video but it will still play the sound. I have unistall/re-install player, updated to the latest player version, repaired XP, updated all codecs. I don't want to format XP so any help will be greatly appreciated. keep up the good work. thanks

Consider a "restore point" to a time before the 11 install.

Consider VLC.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, are in my top 10

You don't say if it is all file types or just some. If the latter, download gspot then open (or drag) the offending file into it. It will tell you exactly which codec is missing (top right in red). Here's the link - get the top one:
http://www.headbands.com/gspot/v26x...

If you find a later codec version than gspot suggests then get that.

I had "all the codecs" too (or so I thought) but gspot immediately found just the one I was lacking.

Go here and download and install the K-Lite Codec Pack. This will fix WMP 11's problems once and for all...

VLC is a player that plays nearly all formats. It is available for free at http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ I like it.
