Okay all, I reinstalled XP Pro sp2 on this laptop, and have ALL the drivers installed except for one "network connection", which is obviously the Dell wireless functionality of this box.
I installed the Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN MiniCard driver that was unbelievably hard to find from their site. I have spent a ridiculous number of hours reading forums and trying different drivers I find here and still to no avail.
NO matter what I try I keep getting this error message about bcmwltry.exe and it will NOT go away. all the solutions I've found include uninstalling the WLAN driver to make this popup msg stop showing.
well, umm, that doesn't fix the fact that the WLAN card needs a driver to work. Sure the message is gone, but so is the wireless. not real helpful.
If any of you have any leads on getting a WLAN 1390 card in a Vostro 1500 to work WITHOUT a bcmltry.exe error, please, I beg of you, please educate me on how.
really, I am begging.Thank you endlessly for any help with this,
Chuckp.s. I am very technically savvy in my occupation as a second level support tech, but am at a real loss on this problem, so please feel free to use as much technical info as needed.

why not try a winsockfix?

My gosh am I just ignorant once in a while. DUH! yeah, some techie I am sometimes. GAG. I just assumed that since this laptop came with Vista Home Basic on it that the driver CD ONLY would have Vista drivers. but just out of chance, I figured I'd try the cd anyway. Good Lord would that have saved me a bit of time over this past week. well anyway, I am a support technician, and just so the world knows and realizes, we ain't perfect. we forget the obvious sometimes too!
so this is just an FYI for those who fall into the same task of XP'ing their Vostro 1500 that has a 1390 wlan minicard inside. just use the cd that came with it. DUH again.
bye.

hmmmm....a bit confusing....you are talking about XP and looking for Vista Drivers?

Hey MT chuck is there anyway I could get that driver off of you. I have the same issue with a Vostro 1400. I checked the CD that came with mine and tried the XP setting. Nothing came up, the vista setting showed the driver, but I assume it will bring that pop up again.

minusnt, you need to give me some sort of contact info so I can send it to you. Email me at celchlepp at yahoo.com.

XPUser, yeah, perhaps it was my wording that was odd, but I just didn't expect there to be XP drivers on a Vista Drivers CD. That was all. I was very happy to find that there are though. sure helped me a bunch.
Thanks to all for responding as always!

Hi buddy!!!
Here is the help.Go to the ftp link
ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/network/ and download R151519.exe. That is the driver of the wireless adapter for windows Xp. Have a nice day on wireless :)

Blaupunc, any chance of help on the infamous SM Bus Controller? I've read it is directly related to a chipset driver.
only difference this time is I need it for an Inspiron 1721. after a very long series of battles of time and bogus drivers online for ALL THE OTHER COMPONENTS ON THIS LAPTOP, having upgraded to XP from Vista, but can't figure out what on earth the SM Bus Controller needs to make the yellow flag go away.
Thanks to any help from anybody!
Chuck
