HI,
I have a problem connecting my laptop to my desktop via cross over cable. I have a great internet connection to the laptop that is wireless but can't seem to get a wireless signal on my desktop. I was wondering if anyone knows how I can share my wireless internet connection from my laptop to my desktop using a cross over cable. I have a wireless built in card on my laptop and a nic card on the laptop as well. I can get the internet on my laptop but not one my desktop. I can however share files between the two computer which i find is really weird? I was wondering if anyone knows how i can share the wireless internet connection from my laptop to my dekstop. Thanks so much if you can help-fg2grahame!

Speaking from personal experience, and IMHO only, I have never had luck with cross-over or internet connection sharing.
For the cost, a hub will save you TONS of grief.
if dial-up, use the hubbed local LAN for file transfer, and let the boxes go on-line through their own modems independent of each other (though not at the same time)
Or even better, if your connection is broadband, a (linksys) router with built in hub and air capability would be the only way to go. The router handles all the DHCP calls and will have a built-in NAT firewall that is an absolute must for connected-all-the-time machines. Both machines access the net at the same time. The desk through the wired LAN-side of the router and the laptop through the air-port on the LAN side of the router. Since both are on the LAN side, they talk to eachother through the router as well, though file transfer between them would be faster over wire, it may suffice. Either way, if you have a wired port on the laptop too, then it will connect either by air or by wire.
Hope that's what you were looking for :)
Bruce
