Hi everyone,

I have problem with setup file sharing on my desktop and laptop PCs via LinkSys Wireless router w/4 port switch, both has Win XP Pro installed. I unable to see other PC on either of them even at I ran Home Network Wizard on both of the PCs. The Desktop PC connect directly to one the port, the laptop connect to internet via built-in wireless NIC. WEP & MAC filter enabled for the wireless connections. DHCP also used and limited to only 5 IP range. My main purpose is trying to share the printer which direct connected to the Desktop, the printer already setup as sharing.

Thanks in advance.

You will have to bridge the connection from the Laptop Machine. It should tell you all about it in the wireless router manual, Or you can look it up in the help section in XP. To bridge the connection you will have to do it on the Laptop. Also you can use the Network troubleshooter in XP click on Start/programs/accessories/System tools/System Info/ tools from up top and Choose Net Diagnostics.

My advice is NOT to bridge the connection. In fact, be sure it is not bridged. Also disable WEP. You don't need it.

I have file sharing and printer sharing on my computer, and they work fine (once I struggled to get them to).

Is the rest of the connection working? That is, can you get to the internet and email? If so, the file and printer sharing should not be too difficult. If not, there are other solutions.

I'd be happy to help further if you need it.

Make sure you have XP's built in firewall disabled. Also if you are using a software firewall you will need to setup rules to allow them to see each other. So check it out cause this is the problem a lot of the time.
