Hello.

I can't seem to connect to a secured wireless ineternet connection with my lap top. It picks up unsecured connections fine, but never a secured connection. I have the SSID and the WEP yet it just doesn't connect at all. I have no idea what to do, and at this point I'm quite frustrated. Any help would be appreciated.

Bobbys, SWAG, password? Sounds to me like you might need to edit your logon procedures and be sure you're sending (the correct) one.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I dont' know what you mean, SWAG?

All I know, is that the lap top I am using has the same WEP tpyed in as the other Lap top that works completely fine.

Login Procedures?

Perhaps check:

The rule of thumb seting up a simple wifi is to get it working without any mac filtering, security etc.

(Incidentally are you on XP - sp2?)

So...

Can you connect using the correct ssid - but NOT using wep/wpa; and not using mac filtering?

If you are using mac filtering, verify that the NIC is listed in approved/alloewd connections.

mac filtering being the option to allow, or disallow, those NICs shown in the appropriate list; part of the assorted security options in most/all access-routers.

Possibly this "almost hands-off" approach may help too:

Also read this for a little clarification about the above approach.

And a couple of basic tutorials - perhaps worth a browse too:

I read throughout those articles, but I didn't find anything relevant to my problems. Thanks anyway though. I know what to do I think, but it's just not working =/

re' initial queries I posed:

Confirm that you can connect with no mac filtering - and no wep/wpa etc.?

If so what happens if you invoke mac filtering only?

And what happens with no mac-filtering but using wep/wpa?

Also - are you "absolutely certain" that the ssid you tell the (wifi) adapter to use, and the key you type in "is correct"; no typos, no wrong type cases etc.?

Hmm..

I'm pretty sure all of the filters are off, other than that I'm nort sue what you mean

There are no typos, I'm 100% sure of that

Could it be that I don't know that log in name/password? Somewhere I read that you need to log in or something... hmm
