My wireless connection icon in the system tray on my Toshiba laptop shows that the wireless connection works, but I cannot access any web sites. I'm using a NetGear WRG614 router and Bell Sympatico DSL service with a Speedstream modem with no other PC connected to the Internet. I verified my DNS settings and router settings and they seem to be fine. I'm not sure why there is a wireless connection active, but no access to the Internet. When I hook up the DSL modem directly to my laptop there are no problems. Please help...Thanks!

sounds like you need to config your nic. go to tcpip settings and check to see if you have an ip. if not issue one manually. not sure what ip netgear uses...probably starts with 192.x.x.x. you should set the last number to 100 or 101. so it looks like 192.x.x.100. the x's should have a number in them. hope this helps

I have to ask first why you're bothering to use a router if it works fine without one and you're only using one computer.
If you really want to use one for whatever reason, be sure the router is configured properly. Open IE (doesn't matter if it connects or gives you a page; just open it), in the address bar type 192.168.1.1. When a screen asks for user name, ignore it. For password, type in 'admin' without quotes. Then add in the configuration that Netgear wants you to use, probably PPPoE. You shouldn't have to add much else, if anything, and you shouldn't have to get your own IP; it should find it automatically.
If it still doesn't work, reset the router and modem, and reboot.
If you still have problems, call Netgear or check their web site. But it really doesn't take much other than this simple beginning configuration.
