WinXP won't start up

Specs: Windows XP, Pentium 4/ 2GB

I am having a problem with a WinXP Professional system. It has McAfee Internet Security installed. An update was done and it asked to reboot. After rebooting, when windows loads with the blue animated bar, it is stuck there. I have let it run for hours and it still stays on that screen. I tried to use the last good configuration, but it did not have any effect.

I tried Safe mode, and it gets stuck on agp440.sys. I tried the troubleshooting step where one goes into recovery mode console and disables that driver. It then gets stuck on viaagp.sys. I temporarily disabled that driver, then it gets stuck on NDIS.SYS (or at least that is the last line shown).

I have done a chkdsk /p and chkdsk /r and after reboot nothing changes.

Now I have done a repair installation of WinXP Pro. After copying the files and the initial installation it rebooted before the GUI install. It still gets stuck on the startup with the blue bar.

What else can I do to get this system working? I have done a memtest in the case there is a problem, but nothing turned up.

Any other troubleshooting hints are very welcome.

You can clean your hard disk and then install Xp. But sadly, you will lose your data this way.
in cmd,
type diskpart
list disk
select disk 0
