I have a K7S5A mobo, and a lot of times when i start my computer after turning it off, it'll beep once in bios but then windows won't start, the screen just stays black, and windows doesn't load, it just stays like that. i have to hit the reset button, and then windows loads the menu saying windows didnt start properly, i chose to load normaly and everything's fine. It'll reboot just fine but the pc won't load windows when it's first off. it's a very anoying problem and i cant figure out what's causing, if its the mobo, windows or something else. help!!

The FRIST SECTOR on the HARD-Drive is the "M.B.R(MasterBootRecord)". When the First 16bytes of the MBR, are erased/changed you will get Blank-Screen and XP will NOT STARTUP.---------------
If you get the Error Message"Operating System not found", it is because the SECTOR- Signature from the MBR at address- 01F has been erased/changed.
----------------If you have NT/2000/XP, you can boot from startup floppy disks or CD-ROM, choose repair option during setup, and run Recovery Console. When you are logged on, you can run FIXMBR command to fix MBR.
----------------
NOT GUARENTEED THAT IT WILL WORK!!!!!!!!
It is recommended to BACKUP the-MBR before it gets corupted, and then you can RESTORE IT after the problem pops up.
Hope that it helps....

!!!XP-Users-ONLY!!!
Start up from the Windows XP setup CD.
During setup, enter the Recovery Console by pressing the key "R". Type in the number of your desired installation. This is usually number "1". On the command prompt, type "fixmbr" and press ENTER. Type the key "y", then press ENTER. On the command prompt, type "fixboot" and press ENTER.
Type in the key "y" and press ENTER.
Restart the computer computer.
If it tells you that the MBR has changed, and that you have to RESTORE IT. Then Load BIOS, and choose SAVE MBR!!!, DO NOT choose restore MBR. Once you SAVE the new FIXED-MBR, then you can restart it and it will LOAD XP!!!!
Good Luck...
