I can't find a solution to fix my Windows XP desktop that keeps on crashing and redisplays. I am planning to go back to Windows 2000, is it better to install Win2K from scratch or is there a way to downgrade my WinXP to Win2K without reinstalling my existing programs?

Hi

If at all possible a clean install of any operating system is always the best choice. It involves more work but you usually have less problems down the road.

If you had your drive ntfs'ed I would defintely recommend that you do a clean install.

If you boot from the windows2000 CD, you can install windows2000 in a clean directory to replace XP. you can also format and repartition your drive from the installer.

If your having problems you cant fix..

Forget about trying to save your programs and format/reinstall. One of those programs might be causing your problems.

All of the software can be reinstalled after the OS. Make sure to back up-to removable disk any data you wish to keep. Inlcuding setup.exe's youve downloaded from the internet for software favorites folder. Email and address books etc.

Good Luck.
