i get a message on the screen alerting me that the computer will shut down in 60 seconds. i mention that i don't have any scheduled task set to do that. it happend after i installed a new XP home ed(it worked fine for about a day). i had the same problem with the old operating system (also XP home ed). my computer is a compaq presario 6000 series. hope you can help me. thanks.

When I installed xp on my computer I had the same problems...it worked for about a day then after that when I ran any sort of games or music or video...anything basicly...my computer would run them fine for about a minute...then pop up a box saying I had 60 seconds to save anything I was working on and prepare for my computer to automatically restart...then i had one time where it restarted 5 times in a row...bringing up the "you have 60 seconds before windows restarts" box each time..And by the way I didnt install any download managers...It got soo bad that I installed windows 98 again and now im dealing with the problems of finding the right combination of drivers for my computer...if Someone can help me figure out what went wrong with xp so perhaps I can reinstall it and fix the problem then that would be great

Its been happening to me, and i finaly caught it last night.
I tickled a few things and triggered it manualy when I tried to close svchost thru task manager.
if you look into svchost.exe you will find it has been replaced with SCVHOST.exe and is very annoying.

I have a Toshiba laptop with WinXP Pro on it patched with SP1 and up to date. Has any one found a fic for this?

I had the same problem with Windows XP. I turned on my Firewall and the I start to search on internet. I think the problem comes from a virsus named "W32.Blaster.Worm" which alow downloads in your computer and the execute them. Search in C:\WINDOWS\system32\msblast.exe and you will find the virus. Once again, i'm not sure yet. Here is more information :
