Comment:

I have been instructed since I cannot access my display properties any longer to insert my WinXP disc and use the "repair" option. This scares me to death!! Does this mean that I will lose all of my software apps and settings after the repair is finished? It is not worth the risk if this is true.

Thanks.

there's a better way for that repair of urs.
insert the winxp CD.
open the run cmd and type sfc /scannow and hit enter.
this will take a while so relax.

SFC /SCANNOW ..... and yes there's a space after sfc

Is that it? Will it fix the problem automatically or does this just do a scan and tell me what I should do thereafter?

Curious.

Using the repair you won't lose anything except the windows updates. You will have reinstall all of them including SP1 unless you have a slipstream CD.

If there is a problem with any of the system files, then it will be replaced by the one that is on the CD. No problem - easy to do and you will not lose any programs nor data. If it does not find a problem then got to Start then all programs then accesories then system tools and then system restore. This will revert the computer to a time before any problems happened - if you can recall when the problem started happening.

Thanks guys,...I'll try it this weekend.
Again,...my system seems to be running fine otherwise, but the display properties just cannot be accessed and it's annoying. I'm sure it was something I did. I recall doing something in the registry a time ago, but who knows. I will try your method and keep my fingers crossed! Again,..thanks!!!
