After a new install, I put in OfficeXP and video and sound drivers then tried installing SP2. It would reboot halfway through it. It let me do the standard updates OK, though. Then I tried Photoshop 7 and it did the same thing(rebooted) and told me to run chkdsk. I did and it fixed corrupt areas on the disk. Then I was able to install Photoshop. I just tried Adobe Acrobat 6 and it rebooted again. This time no indication of corrupt areas on the disk. It's a fairly new (1 to 1.5 yrs old) Seagate 40gig Barracuda. I just reformatted it and added an 80gig Barracuda as an extra drive.

Unsupported drivers or a virus/worm.
Look at your event viewer and dump logs for further clues.

I've installed the same version a couple times before after reformatting and stuff. Of course, Microsoft's database has no info about some of the certain errors.

I've installed the same versions of software (adobe acrobat 6, photoshop 7) a couple times before, after reformatting and stuff. Of course, Microsoft's database has no info about some of the certain errors I found in event viewer.
