Comment:

First off this is what i have done so far with no results.
1- scaned for viruses with the lates definations (No viruses found
2- defraged hard drive
3- ran scan disk
4- did disk clean-up
5- re-installed software
6- stoped unecesary programs from starting up when i boot the system
7- ran spybot and that didn't make a diff.
and i know there is not an overheating issue

My computer first experienced the problem while trying to play Opperation Flashpoint. after getting started in the game within a few minutes my computer would restart.

Now i have the same thing happening with Warcraft III
C&C: Generals
MLB 2003
Neverwinter Nights
and Norton Antivirus 2003 (but i did finaly get a full scan)
and i have tried re-installing these games and it made no difference.

also when i move my mouse around the screen it gets all jaggedy and jumpy as well.

I have no problems with checking email, surfing the internet, i even tried with-out being hooked up to the internet and the problem still is there. but getting worse like its spreading from one game to the next.
any help would be very apriciated

Did you overclock anything because this seems like the machine check error that I'm having because I overclocked(although there are other causes). My XP reboots for no reason, almost always while im playing a game. After examining using the send error report I find that I have this problem: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329284
MCE is a stupid feature that is embedded into the windowsXP kernel. When installing linux you have the option to turn it off. I posted a thread on these forums asking if there is a way to disable it without recompiling the kernel.

When your computer reboot and windows says I want to let microsoft spy on you please click send error report - do that. Then post the knowlege database thing that is attached to your problem.

As far as i'm concerned, if your desktop is tearing when you move the mouse, your vid card is dying. Especially if it's only just started.

You don't say what card it is and wether or not you have the correct drivers installed (Xp craves WHQL drivers (drivers that are digitally signed by Microsoft for use with Xp)), if your drivers aren't signed it could cause problems, but to this extent? I'm not sure.

Hunt down some SIGNED drivers and install them, it just may help, doesn't matter if they are older than your current drivers, as long as they are signed.

When I posted that reply I haden't read anything in that thread except the part about restarting when running games. Now that I read the whole thing it does seem to point to the video card dieing.

Run SFC /SCANNOW from the Start menu.

That will scan and repair as necessary, all Windows system files, could be that your registry and/or system files have been corrupted somewhere along the line.

Well I'm too tired to stress the computer right now. Going to bed and will see if it still restarts tommarow. If the problem presists(ahh I'm talking Microsoft) I'll try non-ATI made drivers.
PS. Sorry for post hijacking

Have you considered it might be RAM failing...?

Seems to be a dearth of less than 'purrfect' RAM around these days.

i would recommend posting ur system setup and temps.
there could be three or four things that cloud be causing the random restarts.
1.ur PSU could be dying
2.may have faulty rams
3.ur pc might overheating and causing it to shutdown(check ur temp)
4. as posted before, the video card might be dying(which i seriously doubt).

I seem to have a similar problem, but i believe it is the irq sharing... my usb is sharing the same irq as my nvidia geforce4 Ti 4200 AGP8X... and the same irq is sharing the onboard sound.. I realize that i could better the problem buy buying a sound card but if i buy a pci usb card and disabled all the onboard usb sockets would/could this stop my online 3bfx games from restarting my computer or doing a memory dump???????

Your 12volt rail on your power supply can't handle the stress the 3D games are putting on it.
Open your case and check the specs. on the label on the PSU. Look for where it says 12 volt. Under that the amps. will be listed, if its less than 14 its time for a better power supply.

A better power supply always helps but the one you have should be good enough unless you have a bunch of extras hooked up to the 12 volt rail. Also if your power supply is failing, that could still be your problem.

Try going to This site and download memtest86 version 3.0. Then extract the files to a floppy >> reboot with the floppy in the floppy drive. This will test your memory.

Try this first, remove all your memory except one module and see if it still crashes. Each memory module has to be the same speed. The size of each module doesn't matter but the speed does.

Regards

I ran a ram stress test and it passed
i checked the stats on my PSU and they are identical to the stats of the user above.

I double checked the temp of my pc and as i stated befor i have no overheating problem

My computer runs like a dream untill i try and run a game or other software (exp NAV virus scan) that uses a lot of resources. then it reboots and i get no error message when it reboots in a game but get an error message if it reboots using NAV.

I even ran a memory stress test and it passed

Sorry Pandasar, I wasn't paying attention. I thought I was still talking to you.

When you run memtest86 you're stressing your system out before all the software loads which tells me it may be a software conflict that may be causing the problem.

Try this: click start >> right click my computer and choose properties >> click the advanced tab >> under startup and recovery click settings >> Under system failure uncheck "automatically restart" and say ok.

Now next time it crashes it will go to a blue screen with an error on it, post that error here and we will try to help if we can.
Are you sure all your memory modules are the same speed?

This thread is getting too long. Next time I will respond to your email address.

I am 100% positive my memory moduals are the same.

This is what the blue screen said when running Disc Clean-up

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Then some steps to do if its not the first time
Tech Info
***STOP: 0x0000000A (0x01C80077, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x804EA21D)

This is what the Blue Screen said when running WarCraft III

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Tech Info
***STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x4e407869, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x4e407869)

There was no blue screen with C&C Generals but it did give me a message box befor i rebooted.
You have encountered a serious error, serious errors can be caused by many things viruses, overheating hardware and faulty hardware and then other stuff i forgot to right down.
then i got 3 messages after i rebooted
critical error messages if you want the stuff for thoes let me know.

i check onec again to see if anything is overheating and nothing is overheating thanx for your help

I may be wrong but I had a similar problem
and I was not playing games or anything.
WinXP would reboot for no reason or "the blue screen of death" when
I was in the middle of surfing the web or
checking my email which drove me nuts for
weeks tring to nail down the problem and I
mean I did everything you can imagine checking CPU cooler, PSU, video card, RAM
and did not find anything until I found that
my P4 CPU had 1 bent pin which was causing
a short circuit. That one little thing would let my computer run for a while stable
and then would go crazy rebooting many times on a day.
Fixed it and so far haven't had anymore problems.

I forgot to say that I had to use a magnifier in order to see the bent pin on the CPU.
Hope this helps. Good Luck!
