Comment:
I have an install of XP Home edition, it will not boot into windows and it will just sit on the "Blue Welcome to Windows Screen" I tried to run chkdsk from an Ultimate Boot CD using "these switches /r /f /x" on this hard drive the program runs at first but then the task will run up until 5% of the test and it will freeze the system, is this a hard drive problem with bad sectors and or windows corrupt issue or could it be a virus ?
I have no idea what is wrong, can somebody please help ?
It is my customers PC, general hardware installed Dell Dimension 4500 PC about a few years old.

Find out who made the drive - then go to thier website and download the diagnostic program for the hard drive. You may need to be able to boot from a floppy drive.
Then you can tell whether it is the drive or something else.
