Product: Generic

Hi All,
Just picked up an XP Pro OS sealed in box on e-bay. My question is, the seller stated Not an Upgrade and not an OEM.

The box says:
"For PCs without Windows, or PCs with Windows 95 or earlier versions"

It's version 2002 by the way.

So is it an OEM?

nope, this is retail.

Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

Yeah it's retail and genuine if the auctioned product matches every features shown HERE, i.e., COA, Product Key Label, Wavy Edge Copper Hologram CD, and Inner Mirror Band Hologram.

Ultimately the Product Key that came with the disc is what decides it's fate, if the key has been abused - guess what, you just got yourself a fancifully designed coaster.

But for all intent & purposes the package is considered legal and authentic unless such a thing is encountered.

The only way to find out is by doing the installation. When prompted during the installation process, type in the key combinations and cross your fingers that they will be accepted as valid.

Anyway, you'll know soon enough, especially when you go to register it with MS. If you bought from a seller with a high auction number (the number after his/her userid) and if the feedback is high and positive, you should be ok. I have bought several CD's like that. By the way, there really isn't anything wrong with OEM; you just don't get the retail box. And there is no support. But, hey we have Computing.net for that, right?

A positive attitude won't solve all your problems, but it will annoy just enough people to be worth the effort.

Thanks guys'

Arrived today in a retail box with another sealed sleeve inside also manuals and the CD has all the holograph's and numbers in holograms on the reverse (recorded) side so looks like the business.

Thanks again for your help and comments, great crew here.
