Subject: WinXP Pro loses network connectionOS: XP Professioal SP1CPU/Ram: 2.4GHz/512MB |
Comment: I am having an on-going issue with 2 workstations (both XP Pro SP1) that are connecting to a MS Small Business Server 2000 (SBS2K) one-server domain through wired, switched fast ethernet. (CAT5) After approx. 4-6 hours of being logged into the domain and complete inactivity, the XP boxes lose its network connection to the SBS2K server, for no apparent reason. to elaborate, I try to access a share/network resource, and it asks me to re-authenticate, so it seems like I'm losing my authentication token at some point. The problem is always fixed by rebooting, but obviously this isn't a cure, and naturally reset all the network communication threads. I've already looked into the network adapter properties and made some adjustments there (e.g. was set to disconnect to save power-that wasn't the fix, though), and I've run out of ideas. If anybody can shed light on this, please let me know or leave your post here at your earliest convenience. Thanks a million in advance. Cheers, Brian G. brian@aqua15.com

Reply: (edit)My first guess is that you know more than me. Second, I would try a new nic. Do the two systems go into a sleep mode? Maybe OS is killing power to the devices? Now that you have looked at my thoughts, and laughed, maybe someone with some actual knowledge will respond. Good luck.
