What services are needed running to accomplish WinXP Pro File Sharing between 2 winxp pro machines?
I tweaked my machines, so i may have accidentally disabled 1 or more of the services required for this type of file sharing to work. I followed all the steps in that tutorial I linked, but when I try to access one of the shares all I get is "no network provider accepted the given path".
If i switch to "Simple File Sharing", then I can access all the shares with no problems at all, But I do not want to use "simple file sharing" because I dont want everyone to have access to everything.
I think maybe i disabled a service that authenticates the client when it tries to access. Unless this type of file sharing is not supported through the wireless interface, but that wouldnt make sense seeing as "simple file sharing" is supported.
What services are required to be running on a winxp pro machine in order to accomplish this type of file sharing?
thank you...

Did you disable Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)? I use simple file sharing and disabled that one and it would not automatically find network shares. I could type them in the address bar or make a shortcut to them but in my network places they would not come up.

Yes I have that service disabled, but "simple file sharing" works fine even with that service disabled. My problem is I cant get the other kind of file sharing to work. I tried enabling the service you mentioned just to check, but I still have the same problem.

When you tweaked your machine did you look here for a reference. You can click the aqua color name for an explanation of each service.

Look here. I saw a couple of webpages on a google search that said the system file checker would also fix it.
