Winxp no longer recognizing secondary disks

Specs: Windows XP
Dear All,

i have 2 hard disks which my main computer (running winxp) suddenly refused to recognize (after a vundo infection which I cleaned). the hard disks will show up as "not initialized" on my main computer, whether i connect it through a USB enclosure or directly through an IDE cable. also, i have tried "initializing" a disk (just as a test; i know it deletes data), but the disk manager doesn't do anything to the disk. that is, the disk stays uninitialized.

however, these hard disks work perfectly on my secondary computer (also running winxp) .

any way to regain access to these hard disks from my main computer, without reinstalling winxp on my main computer? seems to me that my winxp install is somehow corrupt. thanks!

Sincerely,

BD

p.s. my primary hdd on my main computer is still working fine.

since the drives appear to work in another computer then it is that the virus screwed up some system files...you will need an original copy of the installation disk (not a restore disc).

start > run and type
sfc /scannow and press enter

(notice the space after the SFC )

This is the running of System File Checker and it should recopy any bad or mis written system files from the CD or from a stored copy of the I386 file.

Sometimes it does not request that the installation CD be used so try it even if you do not have a copy!
