When logging on to a Win2k server from a WinXP client my logon hangs in "Applying Personal Settings" for minutes. This happens with only certain users on every machine on the network. Other users on the network are not having this problem.
I've tried deleting their local profile as well as their network account and creating new by copying a user account that doesn't have the problem - that didn't work.
PLEASE - Does anyone have any sage advise for this very annoying problem. The boss isn't happy with their brand new network.

There was a bug in windows 2000 that would cause the scheduled tasks folder to be searched when ever the user would browse network drives. Microsoft developed a fix for this bug. The fix fixed the problem and it also had nice side affect of speeding up browsing of Microsoft networks. Below are instructions how to apply the fix.1. Open up regedit.
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Current Version/Explorer/RemoteComputer/NameSpace.
3. Find a key named {D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}.
4. Right click on it and delete it.
5. RestartHope this helps.

try this:
go into my network places and click on the properties. Click on Local Area Connection.
Click on Advanced on the menu and click on Advanced Settings. you will see two tabs; Adapters and bindings and Provider Order. Click on the Provider Order tab. Under Network Providers, move Microsoft Windows Network to the top of the list. Close and restart your PC and see if it makes a difference. The reason why it takes ages to log in is because the Microsoft Terminal services is still running. I don't fully ubderstand why but this worked for me. good luck
