Comment:

I set a tricky windows login password on my machine and I, like a moron, forgot it. I need to bypass it to get into windows and delete that user I created or reset the password.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know.
Thank you

You can try going into Safe Mode as administrator and set up a new account if possible and reboot to it in normal mode.
Otherwise a re-install is necessary. The NT kernel and ntfs file system is very serious about security.
Sorry and Good Luck

Hi Kyle,

Start XP (Logon) without using a password:
>Start
>RUN
Type: “control userpasswords2”
>OK
In the window that appears
>Users Tab
Uncheck: “User must enter a User Name and Password to use this Computer”
>Apply
Next screen OK, then OK again.

Since I did not assign a Password before, it did not ask me for the password and ever since it just boots up XP without asking anything. Don’t know how it will behave because you have a password.

Please let me know if this solved it?

Cheers de Peter

Hey Peter:

If Kyle can't logon, how do you expect him to follow your directions above?

What account are you speaking of? Did you create yourself an administrative account on the box and you need to unlock that account, or do you only have THE administrator account setup and have successfully locked yourself out?

If you can get in the box with admin rights on another account just simply use the Manage tool(Right click My Computer) to change the password on the account you are speaking of. If you only have one account one the box and have locked yourself out you can still get in using tools available online, just Google search for "password recover XP". If you are familiar with Peer2Peer I would look there first though.

Reloading is always an option if you don't care about the data on the PC.
