I just upgraded from Win2000, and XP is being very choppy. it didn't do this with Win2000. Whether I drag a window to move it or scroll down on a web page, it seems to be very laggy\choppy. Anything that shows up on the screen won't come up all at once. It will start from the top of the window and go down as it's diplaying on the screen.

Anyone know how to fix this, without having to reformat?

try updating the graphics card drivers from the site of the card manufacturer. the windows mini drivers may not cut the ice. alternatively, it could work the other way around. install windrivers instead of originals, this has worked for me before

what are your specs? maybe your computer isn't good enough for XP. XP is very resource-hungry

Try disabling some of XP's visual effects...start->control panel->system->advanced->settings (the first one) and then clicking for best performance

i have:
1.2GHz AMD Athlon Thunderbird
256MB RAM
60GB Maxtor Hard Drive
etc.

I've used XP many times on this same computer before and it's never been choppy like this. Though the other times i installed was using a clean install. This recent install was an upgrade from Win2000.
