I am soon upgrading from WinXP Home to WinXP corporate for my small home business. Will i be able to install corporate from winxp home, and will i have to backup my files? any other advice? thanks.

there is no such thing as XP corporate for the individual home or business user.
Larger companies buy one version of XP pro and then buy licenses to use that OS on more than one computer...more than 5 is the standard.
So that said all you are trying to do is upgrade XP Home to XP Pro..right??
unless of course you have one of those licenses,if you do try to install SP1 and see if it works
