on numerous occasions ive been left with nothing but problems after running WinXP pro's built in defragger including corrupted files and boot problems etc. im just wondering if i've just been blessed with bad luck or if others have also had simliar difficulties.

The default defrag isn't necessarily the best one out there. There are plenty of others that work very well.

As Bryan says, there are better ones but I use the XP one a couple of times a month and have no trouble with it
