I installed Norton System Works 2002 on one of my XP machines and everything was going just fine until I changed the names of things (the computer name, descrip and hd names) for my home network, now whenever I boot the machine, Norton gives me an error that says: Norton System Protect - Access Denied: Drive C
I can stil use Norton without any problems but have never seen this before and it is rather annoying. Ive tried completely reinstalling Norton and that didnt work.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I have not had problems with Systemworks 2002 or 2003 but my thought is that maybe it is not completely uninstalling.
Norton has a file that is used for removing files that uninstalling does not get. It is on their site but if you cannot find it, post again and I will try to find the file name.I did have trouble with the Systemworks version before 2002 but Nortons cleanup utility got rid of whatever was remaining and causing problems.
I just looked and it is called Symclean.exe (or Symclean.zip) and is very small (less than 150kb). I can send it to you if you cannot find it on the Norton site.

Funny about that ...I was just browsing through some file trees and came accross this ... might be a good place to look ..
Documents and settings/allusers/aplication data/Symantec.....
There is a folder called Symantic shared.... mine is empty..I have 2003 on and single user...Let me know what you find in there or if it is the right place to look ..??

Hi,
I had this very problem with System Works 2003. I don't exactly remember what Norton's solution was (something about either switching on, or off, simple file sharing). Either way, it did not work. Yet, the program did everything it was supposed to do.
Due to other reasons, I had to reformat my drive and install everything from scratch, and Norton loaded perfectly.
Check the Norton site for their solution, maybe it will work for you.
Good luck!
By the way, for me, uninstalling and reinstalling did not work.

may i make a suggestion.if you need to uninstall system works the best way to do it is to do it manually. the symantec site has complete instructions and you must be comfortable with going into your registry to manually delete entries.the "sym-clean" application alone did not remove all of it for me.of all the software i have ever installed norton system works was the biggest pain in the arse to get right. good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!
