my computer suddenly stopped being able to open up any word pad documents. When you click on one it says it can't find the winword exe. program used to open it. It will let me create and save new wordpad docs, but once i try to re-open it, it can't. To my knowledge I havn't done anything to cause this. Please help. Thanks, Gary

winword exe is Microsoft Word. If you do not have Word then you need to reset the association back to WordPad.

Right-click on a any ".doc" Wordpad document.
Select "Open With"
Select "Choose Program..."
Select "WordPad"
Check "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file"
Select "OK"

"winword.exe" is a Microsoft (M$) Word exe file, "wordpad.exe" is the exe file required to open Word Pad. You can test this from the run command box. If you want to open the file in Word Pad, right click on the file, go to open with and select Word Pad from the selection or if you don't see it there then choose program. Did you have M$ Word installed at one point and then uninstalled it? If not then there could be some corrupted files in M$ Word, I belive that Office apps come with a repair option to help you fix it. When you save something in Word Pad it automatically wants to save it in a .rtf format, which M$ Word can also open. You can change which program opens up an .rtf file in the folder options. You can get to this through the control panel. Once you open up the folder options then click the file types tab. Then scroll down and find RTF under the Extensions column and make sure the it opens up with Word Pad. You can change it by clicking on it once and then click change button and then select Word Pad. If you need further help with this please let us know.
