Specs: Windows XP, Q6600//2GB
Can anyone tell me what WINSIDEBYSIDECLEANUP is? Spybot identifies it as something that replaces various DLL files and asks me if I want to allow it. I can't find anything that says is a trojan/virus/worm. Is it harmful? What is it???? Thanks!

Probably an app that takes advantage of XP's side-by-side assemblies.

"The technology keeps multiple versions of a DLL in the WinSxS folder and runs them on demand to the appropriate application keeping applications isolated from each other and not using common dependencies."

I assume you installed a program; then this started after?

That's an excellent response and in my limited technical opinion ... sounds likely. It started after I installed Spybot, because Spybot is set to identify and suspicious changes...so it could have been going on for the last ten years and I'd never know. So you think it a "normal fuction" of the operating system(?). I've run avast and spybot scans on the whole computer and haven't found any bugs...it works fine, so I tend to agree with your assessment. thanks, KWB
