I have XP Professional and just donwloaded Winmx. Need some help on how to change and/or working around the firewall. I used Winmx on 98SE before (no firewall) of course, no problems. Now, with XP Prof., I get no hits on my search, please help. Very little knowledge with firewall, proxy etc..., and don't want to mess around with these settings. Thanks.

Start/Settings/Network connections and choose your connection. Right click, choose properties, then advance and disable Xp's built in firewall and see if that makes a difference.

I am running Windows XP Pro as well. I am running Mediaone through a hardware firewall (netgear gateway router w/ switch). I can download off anyone, but no one can download off me. Would disabling xp's firewall help me out? Thanks.

In reply to the previous message, YES turning off your firewall would make a difference because it prevents people trying to hack through 128bit encryption.
When your firewall is on, it prevents user to hack in, especially with a NTFS file system. It prevents internet sharing which the whole concept of WinMX is file sharing. Turn off IEEE by going to START, CONNECT TO, SHOW ALL CONNECTIONS, right click on your ISP (Internet Service Provider) connection, then go down to PROPERTIES on the option toolbar that pops. Click on the ADVANCED tab and uncheck the checked check box to turn off your firewall.
