Ok yesterday i posted about getting a winlogon.exe error which would prompt an error at the win xp user login screen, hitting OK would restart, and hitting cancel (debug) would do nothing. The error:
The instruction at "0x77f941db" referred memory at "0x20006f60". The memory could not be "read".
Press OK to terminate
Press Cancel to debug
i was able to do a system restore from safe mode on the admin login to the 5th or 6th of sept. Now, this morning the same error came back up when i turned on my computer. The night preceeding the bug (each time)I think IEXPLORE.exe may have crashed right before i turned the computer off. I dont know if that has any relevance.I take it that this error is in my computer and wont stop until i locate it, not sure if its a virus or just buggy memory. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (maybe i could replace winlogon.exe with something?)
chris

if you can still get into safe mode i would run sfc.exe /scannow that will check for the file system errors, also i was just on microsofts support site and they had a response similar to the winlogon.exe being corrupt, let me see if i can find it...also when you are in safe mode if you go to the control panel>administrator tools>event veiwer you can see the system errors and see what file is causing it to freak out on startup, i would assume it is winlogon, but hey at lease you can get an exact error
well on microsofts site if the winlogon is not there or corrupt you can do this

hope that helps ya out a lil bit, if that doesn't do anything post back i'll see i can come up with another fix &/or look into it a lil more

It asks to put in the WinXP serv pack, i couldnt find this with my xp cds so it seems like im stuck. I thought i downloaded it but i may be mistaken.
