Winlogon.exe causes

Hi All, I jigged around with winlogon.exe and replaced it. I have renamed the original winlogon.exe. When I boot up, I get a STOP error and the computer reboots. I have tried using the install disks to boot into console recovery, but it won't recognise my password now. HELP! Any suggestions?? Thanks
Summary: if you can still get into safe mode i would run sfc.exe /scannow that will check for the file system errors, also i was just on microsofts support site and they had a response similar to the winlogon....
Summary: I think winlogon.exe controls logoff as well. I would just accept it. There should be just one. If you try to remove it, I wouldn't know how, you will probably cause system instability. -DF ...
