i don't believe that tale at all. one cannot load win xp on one drive/motherbard and move it to another motherboard, only if its a scsi drive can that be done. liar liar, your pants are on fire

and im not sure but i think it also can be done with a normal ide hard drive. I did the same experiment with windows98 last year on a 386/25 with 32 mb ram and it also worked

guy is right,
Every version of ms windows (except for the 64bit version of windows xp) "runs" on a 386 or higher Because it is a real 32bit processor only much much slower than today cpu's but you will never be able to install windows xp on a 386 because the setup program does a cpu test and if this cpu is under the minimum requirments it just wont install. But you can bypass this to install it furst on a like guy says pentium3 machine and then move the hard drive to a 386. If the 386 has plenty of ram and disk space im pretty sure it will "run" but with very low performance

It's not nice to call someone a liar, especially when you don't know what you're talking about...
YES you can take an XP install on an IDE drive and pop it into a completely different machine, granted of course, that you have the correct version of XP.

Summary: Well, I've heard that you need at least a 233 Mhz processor to install XP on (installation checks for CPU speed), but then, once installed, it can run on a slower processor. I've heard of it even run...
