Windows XP-PC cleanup

Specs: Windows XP
I have been working on my friends computer. I worked on it last night, and I cleaned up about 40 infected files with Malwarebytes. Installed Avast! as a protection. Her computer is pretty old so I updated her Internet explorer and did all of the windows updates. It took quite a while for both of those. Well, after I installed all of the updates, I had to reboot. It wouldn't reboot, so I just restarted it. Now it's running slower and her JavaScript isn't working. I've been into Internet Options to make sure everyting is enabled, but still certain websites aren't working. I need to update her Adobe Flash player too and having problems with that. I also want to just do a PC cleanup and defragment her computer. If anyone has suggestions or answers, I would truly appreciate it. Also, what is the comparison between Avast! and AVG? I couldn't get AVG installed. Thanks!

Sounds like you are still infected, run Malwarebytes in Safe Mode.

Other software:

CrapCleaner http://www.ccleaner.com

Windows Live Safety Scanner http://onecare.live.com/site/en-gb/...

Regards Avast or AVG both good but for a good but smaller download/install I use Avira Personal Free AV http://www.free-av.de/en/products/i...
