The computer in question is a laptop. It had the backdoor.coreflood.B virus. I went to symantec.com and followed the instructions on there for removing the virus, the instructions can be found here. http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/backdoor.coreflood.b.html

All that went good, and the virus was removed from the system. Went into the registry and made a backup of it before I edited out the keys that it told me to. I didn't backup the reg to a diskette or anything, just to my desktop. Everything was fine until the laptop was restarted. When restarted it said that the file ntoskrnl.exe was corrupted or missing while booting. I followed the steps listed here: http://computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/62554.html

But when I tried to do anythign in the recovery console, it just said that access was denied. Any help?

Hi Mike - Do you have any Restore points you can go back to? Don't forget to use Backup or Create Restore Point to backup the registry, using the Export/Import is no good in XP

I'm not sure if there are restore poitns or not. It's my parents computer, which I don't use. Assuming there was a restore point, how could I restore to that point if Windows XP won't boot?
