CPU/Ram: 300 mhz AMD k6 256 sdram

Hello,

I am wondering if my system which is a

P3 (300 mhz) AMD k6
256MB SDRAM
8GB Hard Drive
DVD-ROM Drive
CD-RW
AOL BB (256K)

Will this system take windows XP? This is because all my mates are now running windows xp and i am a bit out dated with win ME.

look here and decide for yourself. Your system meets M$oft minimum but you might not like the results.

I think you'll be ok. I hate WinMe and don't think that XP is too much more resource intensive. Just disable alot of the fancy graphics and animations and graphical stuff after the install (ask if you can't figure it out). I have run it on a similar system and not found the lag to be too terrible. Even if it does run a little slower, I think that the benefits will probably out-weigh the detriments.
...But that is just my humble opinion.

in fairness if you have the money to buy XP then its time to upgrade.

you can buy upgrade kits which include all your parts or depending on your current mainboard you can pick up a slightly faster processor filthy cheap from somewhere like komplett or dabs. its also worth picking up a bigger hard drive. prices are now under 50p per GB.
check crucial for the memory and then pen your letter to santa.
thats my tuppenceworth anyway...
(everyone is entitled to my opinion)
