Reply: (edit)can you boot in safe mode? If not, it sounds like a bad install, reinstall windows, delete the partition, and then format the drive (with NTFS and NOT the quick one) then contine the install, that should fix the problem. Hope that helps AJP

Reply: (edit)Thanks for the quick response - I cannot boot in safe mode, get the same result. I have tried to reinstall several times with the same result. How do you delete the partition and then format the drive with NTFS? Thanks Jeff

Reply: (edit)During the installation, it will ask you to agree to the terms press F8 then, it should ask you if you wanna repair, I believe that you press ESC, then, it should bring you to your partitions, you should press D and then L to confirm, then you should see, something like unpartitioned space, just press ENTER to install and then do the format. These directions may be missing a few steps but, you should get the drift Hope this helps AJP

Reply: (edit)I did not see a screen to agree to terms. I changed the bios to boot from the cd drive and I have the emachine boot recovery cd in the cd drive. It asks if I want to reinstall windows xp, I answer yes. get a warning that I will lose all data on my drive, I still say yes, and it proceeds to install windows. (I load 1 of 2 then 2 of 2). after the installation, it asks to hit any key to reboot. I do that then, it starts windows for one second then reboots. then i get a window to start windows normally, safe mode, safe mode with... I have chosen each one and get the same result. Thanks again. I will look for a spot to hit the F8 key. Jeff

Reply: (edit)IMHO you're wasting your time. eMachine recovery cd is machine-specific. Now that you have replaced the mobo, it won't work. i_XpUser

Reply: (edit)I could not find my xp cd for my emachine, so i used my windows xp cd from my new laptop and installed xp from that cd. I followed the instructions from above F8, D to delete the partition and l to proceed, and it looks like I just need to load the the drivers for my new mother board and then reload the software that came with the pc originally. Thanks for all of the help. I should just be able to do that from the recovery cd, correct?
