No a 98 disk will not be of any help in recovering a faulty XP operating system.

Please describe exactly what happens when you try to boot.

Windows 98 has a MS-DOS sub-system derived from CP/M86

Windows XP is NT based and does not have a seperate sub-sytem derived from OS/2

So I do not think there is much compatibility !!

Hi Richard,
Thanks for reply. My son fixed problem , by phone.(long distance) . He told me to keep finger on F8, whilst trying to boot up. After a few attempts, it went into safe mode, I then pressed tools, he talked through what to do (I forget exactly what it was)......if you are really interested, I will find out, and let you know.. Thanks, Regards, John
