Hello all. Thank you for your time and help in this matter. I have a Dell notebook computer that runs off of Windows XP. Last night, I got a message in the bottom right of my screen saying that there were '2 Adaware or Spyware' (I don't know if it is files or viruses or what). It asked me I wanted to block these from running. I clicked yes. Immediately after that a message box told me if I continue, then certain files my not run properly. I clicked 'ok'. After that, I tried to open Internet Explorer, nothing happened. So I restarted and now my computer, and now it won't boot up past a certain point. Here is what it does...

-First the Dell Logo screen pops up with the option of F2, F8, F10 and so on at the bottom for about 3 second (Normal, always happens).
-The Windows Logo screen is next with the little status (if that's right?) bar that scrolls from left to right. The Logo is in front of a black screen. (still normal)
-Then the screen goes black (still normall)
-The light blue screen that appears with the XP logo just offest from the center, slightly to the right, is what appears next. Light blue across the middle of screen (with little logo on right) and dark blue across the top and bottom of screen.
***This is where it stops. It never makes it to where I can select a 'profile' to log into xp with.

I have tried safe mode. It still stops there. I've tried the 'Last Successful Start Date' option after pressing F8 during startup. Still locks up there.

I'm stuck!!! Please help!!!

Thank you!!

What about safemode command prompt ?

If you can get to that point, run system restore from the command line.

When I tried it, Safe Mode comes up in the corners of the screen with the screen still black then after about 5 seconds it goes to the blue screen (light blue in middle, dark blue at top and bottom) with the little windows logo on it and then stops again. I feel like it teases me for a minute, haha. Anyway, still no progress.

At this point the only thing I can say is to run a repair install of XP, most Dell owners do not have an OS backup disc, but if you do; that is what you need to run the repair.

That costs a mere $10 more, but people want to save a few pennies there when they buy their $700+ machine. Go figure.

It hasn't been resolved yet, but I am going to have my company's IT guy look at it this weekend, and if he can figure it out, I'll let you all know what he did. Again, thanks so much for all the suggestions. This is a great board!!
