Hi, i am from canada toronto and use rogers cable internet .for some reson it doesnt support windows XP can anyone suggest me the tweaks in which I can rectify this problem.

I live in Windsor, Ontario and am using the @Home service. Windows XP had no problems, I didn't really have to do anything. Just click the explorer icon and answered some questions.

I live in Toronto too and use Roger's with XP RC-2 no problem. Make sure u aren't using any of Roger's software. All u need to do is use u'r crxxxxxx-a # as u'r computer name and @HOME as workgroup. That's it - that's all u need to do.

I live just outside Toronto in Guelph and I too can't use Rogers@home that I just had installed. I've input my cr#, changed the workgroup name, and followed the XP addendum instructions to a tee. Still nothing and even worse, Rogers isn't supporting XP problems according to their techs! Wanna talk about pissed! - Just imagine my phone conversation when I heard that.

I am having the same problems with Rogers and XP. The tech didn't know what was wrong and I am frustrated as hell! If anyone has any suggestions, please get back to me!!
Good luck!
Scott

Ok, I am gonna get on this and get back to you all rather than just complain.
I just put XP beside 98 on my system, 98 works, XP doesn't. As soon as I have a fix, I will get back to you.

Good news and bad news. The non-functioning of XP with @home may be caused by your selection of the NTFS file system...the cause being how domains get saved as CR012345-A instead of the necessary (and un-correctable) cr012345-a, although I wanted to solve this problem for all people.
Ok, what you need to do is connect another computer NOT running XP (A friend with a laptop?)to your modem (or if you were smart enough to go dual boot, boot your old OS). I will give the 98 instructions.
NOW - goto START, then RUN and type in WINIPCFG and click enter. Now click the MORE INFO button. You will need to write down your IP address, BOTH DNS numbers (click the "..." box to get the second), the subnet mask (should always be 255.255.255.128) the default gateway and the DHCP server numbers. Enter all these values into the XP machine in the properties for the network card connected to the modem (select "specify ip address" to open these boxes up).
Ok, now, make sure internut exploder is NOT looking for a proxy. Reboot your system and all should be running. I have still not been able to get the automatic configuration working, but the "un-supported" static config is working fine. The other option of course is to re-format your system using FAT32 and spend the 60-75 min to re-install.
For those of you with NTFS, and it worked right away, Be thankful for having a properly configured server!

For you Torontonians without a friend with a laptop or dual boot, try these numbers.
Subnet mask - 255.255.255.0
Gateway - 24.103.62.129
DHCP server - 24.2.9.105
Primary DNS - 24.2.9.33
Secondary DNS - 24.2.9.35This should definitely work for anyone on the bloor1 server, but you should find your own IP address somehow, even though I have been able to change mine with no OBVIOUS harm done, although I could have stomped all over someone else's connection without knowing it. Your IP address should DEFINITELY start with 24, so if you see an ip address that starts with 163 or 192 or something stupid like that, it's NOT the right IP address. If you have your old original hookup papers, all your info is printed on it. I lost mine ages ago, and therefore had to do it the hard way.

Okay everyone, here is the REAL solution to your problems!
The reason why Winxp machine doesn't connect to Roger's DHCP server and grab an IP has NOTHING to do with the file systems or that WinXP does not store the name properly.
It doesn't work because your old computer's NIC card already has an IP from Rogers' DHCP server, when you try hook up you new computer to the modem and grab an IP, because the MAC addresses are different (assuming new NIC), the DHCP server refuses to give another IP. So you don't get connected!
Solution: 1) Set up your old computer as the internet gateway and make the rest of the computers go through it.
2) Boot your old computer back up, release the IP it grabbed. Then unplug the modem for 5 minutes. Plug the modem back it and plug your new computer to the modem. Set you new computer to use DHCP, and this time, it should get a new IP (may be different from your old one) and you are on-line!!!
I hope this helps, send me an email if you need more instructions.
