Comment: i've just built a new computer,with a totally blank/unformatted 80 gig ibm 7200 rpm hdd. i have tried to install windows XP Pro. it just does not boot, it recognises the cd, but say a:\enoughPerfect... blue screen comes up and says that there is a problem with the himem, sometimes it just says nothing.blue screen goes black, and is at a: prompt that does not let you do anything. it also flashs messages about no emulation on cd? can any one help please? thanks zehn

Reply: (edit)Unformatted HD? If that is true then there is your problem. Format it with the NFTS file system so Windows XP can install. JROB

Reply: (edit)You need to boot off the XP cdrom before you can install it. It could be that your CDROM drive is too old to be used as a boot drive, what year,speed is your CDrom drive? Also, have you set your CDrom drive to be the first boot device in your BIOS?
