Reply: (edit)Sometimes I wish that I had been as lucky as you!! I mean... not being able to install the darn thing, and thereby avoid hours and days and weeks and months of grief and sorrow over things that never work..... With XP you can spend more time trying to make it work, than you actually spend USING the machine. I have changed to Mandrake Linux (free download at www.mandrake.com) and have a problem-free machine for the first time since 1995.... Linux has its own little problems, but unlike Windows, then you get updates and fixes that WORK... Back to your problem... If you have not solved it yet, then make sure that in the CMOS (hit "DELETE" during startup to get there) the first boot device is the CD! Normally it is put to be the harddisk or the floppy. And yes, this is also a question if your XP version is full or an update.... you can only boot on the CD with a full version. Best thing to do is to make extra partition on your harddisk, and put your personal files there (use for instance Partition Magic 7 for partitioning ... get it free by downloading it with Kazaa) then you can safely format the drive where you have your Win98 operating system.... to format it in the best way possible, then type in the following from your DOS prompt: format c: /u /s that will make the format Unconditional and it will also format the System files from Windows, otherwise they will be hanging in there and continue to disturb... even if you manage to install the XP... Best of luck to you

Reply: (edit)Hey there, I am with you on that about it not installing on you machine. I have an upgrade version and it always crashing during the install process. What would cause the install to crash ?? ie: potential problems I could trouble-shoot from. I have tried both CD-ROMS and it still crashes. Thanks Sladezero980

Reply: (edit)I had the same problem and I found it to be a bad memory stick. The memory worked fine with Win 98 but gave all kinds of install errors and corrupted install errors I tried 2 more XP cd's with the same problem until I removed the bad memory stick everything went well after. Good luck
