I boot with windows xp cd and try to install the os and loads on the files but after it restarts I get a cursor and blue background like its going to install but nothing comes up
I have tried installing windows 98/me/2000 so I can upgrade or fresh install through but it doesnt work should I turn off L2 cache?
So there is no NTFS or even a DOS partition on the drive. Windows needs to see something like that. Use FDISK or something to create it. The try the install again.
What type of WinXP CD do you have? Are you trying to perform a system restore using the Sony disks? If so, why are you first trying to install those other OSes first?
I believe the Sony restore process relies on a hidden partition on the harddrive. If you wiped the entire drive then there no longer is a hidden partition.
I just had a similar problem with a motherboard whose IDE Controllers were going out. Check the Event Viewer in Windows 2000, look under the System category and look for any errors regarding your hard disk.
Also you may want to try removing ALL PCI cards and USB devices as well as any hard drives and optical drives you're not going to using during the installation. Try the install again.
