Hi all,

I am having problems with Windows XP and USB 2.0. I have many USB 2.0 devices but every port I plug them into brings up a message saying "This device will perform faster if you plug it into a USB 2.0 Hub". I have done what it says on the Gigabyte website and let MS install its USB 2.0 drivers...no joy!

The following hardware is listed in device manager:

USB 2.0 Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller
VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller
VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host ControllerVIA USB Enhanced Host Controller

Has anyone got any ideas?

Cheers!

Same MOBO as mine so can confirm USB2 works !

From memory you need at least SP1 and MS have a couple of patches but you said you did that.

The only differences I see in my Device Manager is that I show 4 USB Root Hubs and the last entry is named...

VIA USB Enhanced Host Controller

Which suggests you may need to reinstall the VIA chipset drivers. Coincidentally I downloaded these just a couple of days ago from:

heres something that usually helps with USB problems
first disconnect all USB devices possible to disconnect
if you go to device manager open up the category called "Universal Serial Bus"
click on each entry with the phrase
"Host Controller" in it so it is highlighted
then press DELETE on keyboard, and agree to removing the device
keep doing this until the category called Universal Serial Bus is gone or the computer
locks up
shut the system down, and start it up again
this will refresh most of the DMA, IRQ & memory address assignments on the system as well as finding any corrupt drivers
fixes most USB probs
Enjoy
