okay maybe I hope, that anybody can help me with my problem, that i am having during a clean install of windows xp home edition on my computer.... My troubles all started when my computer was not working (THE HARD DRIVE CRASHED):(.....So brought my computer back to Best Buys and they sent it out to HP Warranty department to fix it....when i got my computer back , they installed Windows 98...........and a whole lot of garbage programs that i dont use on my computer.....(My Guess is they shipped my computer back to me like how it was when i bought it.) BUMMER........I want to load back Windows XP Home Edition, and get rid of Windows 98 and all the junk files that HP Loaded on my computer....(I Guess Like A Clean Install)....
So i inserted my Windows XP CD and booted from the CD , i got the blue windows setup window.........did all the stuff (And also I read the Liscence Agreement word for word) cough cough cough, kidding, i hit F8 and then the part i get a little confused is on the partition part of the installation.....If i choose install Windows Xp in the same partition as My windows 98 shouldnt windows Xp remove the 98 files and restore the files to the Windows Xp files.....but than i see on top of the window it says it not a good thing to install 2 operating systems on the same hard drive.....
(I dont want to add another Partition in this blue windows setup screen......So if i choose to install the xp in the c: drive where windows 98SE is (What can I expect to happen????) I hope nothing too difficult to fix if i do this....and also i hear about changing or formatting windows xp in the blue setup screen???? I did not find where to do that?
so if any of you guys can help, thanks

I managed to install XP onto a separate primary partition (on a second harddrive), there is an option to do this in the XP installation set-up screens--cunningly hidden.
I ran Partition Magic 7 to clean up my partitions, as I had some unallocated ones, and on reboot in Win98se found it had, in the process of removing and resizing the partitions, screwed up my partition table. Fortunately, Symmantec Disk Doctor (Symm. Utilities 2002) came to the rescue.
The installation went cleanly and on boot-up your given the option of either Wind98se or WinXP, which was nice as I was planning on switching between the two systems by changing the boot up disk in the BIOS settings.
The next thing I'm pondering is to install LINUX on another primary partition, on one of my two harddrives. But I wondering how compatible the LILO boot up programme will be with XP and microsofts dual boot loader.
Hope that's of some use.
Stew

rey J: Use a 98 boot disk and format the C: partition and then do the XP install and install it to C:
Stewart: I have previously had 98/2000/Linux in a triple boot configuration. LILO worked just fine. In fact, the LILO came up first and gave me the option of Windows or Linux. If I chose Windows, I then got the 2000 boot loader and the option of choosing either 98 or 2000.
