Comment: I recently formatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows XP professional. Shortly afterwards i went to the windows update site via internet explorer and tried to update. However, i cannot even reach the download section, instead i get the following message over and over again: The Windows Update site has been updated. To update your version of the software and begin using Windows Update, click Update Now. I click update now and it sends me back to the same page. I believe all my security settings are low enough so im not sure why this will not work. If anyone knows of another site where i can just d/l the updates w/ no hassle please let me know. thx

Reply: (edit)I would also like to know this. I have tried in the past to use the automatic update to no avail. Only about 20% of the available updates ever worked the rest were just stored in a hidden folder on my hard drive ie WUTemp. Interestingly enough though it always seems to work on my 2000 desktop.

Reply: (edit)Just found something that may work. http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp?corporate=true this link seems to skip the scanning portion and allows you to look at all the updates.

Reply: (edit)yeah, i looked at that thread before and tried the suggestion but to no avail. i dont think the initiator of that post is having the same problem. my problem is that i cant even get to the page that tells me what updates i need. i believe i am missing the newest version of windows auto-update and i dont seem to be able to download it.

Reply: (edit)I've heard that Microshaft will include a trojan in service pack 1 that will scan your system for the CD key used to install the system. If it's deemed to be a pirated key, they will shut you off from the update site. Who's to say they aren't already giving you that nice little piece of software.

Reply: (edit)Serge I think Ms are going to include something of the sort but I don't know that it's a Trojan Whatever it is, there's going to be some sort of notice if you try to access the Update Site with an illegal copy That's as I understand it anyway Lesley
